Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim

Image
my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 This YA book is a retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo from a female perspective. I devoured this story because I enjoyed it so much. It is based on a revenge plot that came together beautifully. The writing is great and the word economy was on point. I enjoyed the twist and turns in the plot. The characters are unique and a breath of fresh air. The main female protagonist was smart and self sufficient. This is the fresh read I didn't know I needed. Overall, reading the book was well worth the time. I gave it 3 1/2 stars because I wouldn't reread it but I would recommend it to a friend.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was awesome. Fae, magic woods, folklore, everything fantasy lovers can appreciate. Isobel is a talented painter tasked with painting dangerous beings. Isobel meets Rook, a Fae prince, who kidnaps her to take to his kingdom. Along the way, they meet obstacles and they must work together to survive. This story was everything I wanted in a fantasy book. I wanted a magical, dangerous adventure and that's exactly what I got. I loved Isobel. She is well rounded, intelligent and down-to-earth. Rook was fun, arrogant and seductive everything a Fae prince should be.  I gave this four stars because I would easily re-read it and suggest it to a friend.

Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Andersen

Image
my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As we all know, "adulting" is hard and Sarah did a great job of capturing that on paper.  I enjoyed this so much. This is a series of comics that explain all the ironies of "adulting." The art is simple but fun. The comics are short and quippy. I laughed out loud so many times. If you need a break from the norm, just pick this up. It's a quick read and great break from the norm.  I gave this 5 stars. I would for sure recommend this to anyone and everyone and I am already considering rereading it.

Pirates, Princes and Payback by Frost Kay

my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gigantic thanks to Frost Kay for this e-book in exchange for an honest review.  It's no secret that I love Frost Kay's writing and again this book didn't disappoint. I read this story when it was released as a series of novellas and I really enjoyed reading them again. One thing I love as a reader is being able to tell when a writer had fun writing a book. Frost Kay had a blast writing this story because that energy is translated on the page. The whole story is high energy, the humor is laugh out loud funny, and the characters are super lovable. This was just all around a fun read. If you need something that will lighten your mood and warm your heart this is for you.  I gave it 4 stars because I would reread again and recommend it to a friend.

Graphic Novel: The Lost Carnival by Michael Moreci and Sas Milledge

my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Huge thanks to DC Comics and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. First off, can we just appreciate how gorgeous this cover is? It's beautiful! That same artistry carries throughout the entire comic. I loved that the artist used a simple but elegant color palette to tell Dick Grayson's story. I am a huge fan of the Batman series so I eagerly anticipated getting my hands on this and it definitely didn't disappoint. I loved reading about Robin's story and his life before he was Batman's trusty sidekick. There's magic, there's tragedy, a circus and, of course, there's the Flying Grayson's. There's not much more you could ask for in a story. This was wholesome, gut wrenching and addictive. I immediately connected with the characters from the first page and I couldn't stop reading. I swallowed this in one sitting. I gave this 4 stars because I have all intentions in continuing in the series and r...
