my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Welcome to the Kingdom of Back! Here we have a lost prince, a fae-like creature and the underrated and underestimated Nannerl Mozart. This is labelled a fantasy story but I felt it was more about Nannerl. This follows her story and her struggle to deal with her controlling and ambitious father. Also, her struggle in a dominant patriarchal society. Nannerl is a talented musician just like her brother, but she still ends up pushed into her brother's shadow. She struggles to be heard and seen in her personal life and in the music world. To deal with it, she seeks comfort in the Kingdom of Back and ultimately gets pulled into helping save that world.
I enjoyed this once I was able to sit down and read it. (Which had nothing to do with the actual book.) The magic and world building is lush and rich. Marie Lu's writing is amazing which made for an easy read.
Overall, I gave this book 3 stars because I don't think I would read it again but I would recommend it to a friend.
