A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer

my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow, where to start. This book follows Grey has he comes into the realization and reluctance of the reality that he is the Crown Prince of Emberfall. We watch the battle within himself unfold as he faces the realities of what it'll mean if he does decide to become the new king of Emberfall. The biggest battle involving the betrayal 0f the people he cares about most.

My thoughts. The book started off slow and was largely plot driven. This had me bored at first but halfway through is when we finally dive into Grey's thoughts and the introduction of the secondary characters and the other main protagonists. I love the addition of Iisak, this was an awesome choice by Brigid and I enjoyed everything about his character and the scenes he was involved in. Personally, I could read a book just featuring him! The villains in the story were believable and great additions to the story. They really put Grey in a position of doing the wrong thing for the right reasons and I loved that the ending was messy because of that. The romance of the story was fine. I did appreciate that it was appropriate and that the story didn't "go there." This put more emphasis on the Grey's development in coming into his own. The love interest Lia Mara did bring out the best in Grey which was something I desperately wanted for him. Overall, it was a good story once the stage was set. I can't wait to see what happens with Grey and see what happens in the future for Emberfall.
